Handbags and Gladrags is a ‘once loved’ fashion sale, which will be held tonight (Thursday) October 10 in Kelly’s Bar, with all proceeds going to the Manuela Riedo Foundation.

In addition to ‘once loved’ pieces, a selection of brand new designer labels will be on offer. Items from high-end fashion houses including DKNY, Calvin Klein and Stewart Weitzman will be up for grabs alongside celebrity donations from Imelda May, Fair City style-mavens and stars of stage and screen.

These join rails of items kindly donated by fashion conscious women from Galway City and beyond. Well known MTV presenter and Model Laura Whitmore has also supported the event by donating a ‘Project d’ dress that she wore to the premiere of The Hunger Games.

For one night only, Galway fashionistas have a shot at bagging a real designer bargain for a fraction of the cost (including the chance to scoop a stylish new pair of Monolo Blahniks). The evening will also feature delicious cocktails plus hair and make-up demonstrations from some of Galway’s leading professional hair and make-up artists.

The Manuela Riedo Foundation recently announced funding of €20,000 for projects with GRCC (Galway Rape Crisis Centre), SATU (Sexual Assault Treatment Unit), CARI (Children Under Risk in Ireland) and RCCI (Rape Crisis Network Ireland).

“We are delighted to see that people from all walks of life in Galway and beyond continue to help us enrich Manuela’s legacy by helping others”, said Arlette Riedo on a recent trip to Galway. ‘The work of the foundation is very important to us, it is what keeps us going, to know others will be helped in the name of our daughter helps ease the pain we have in our hearts.’

Funds raised from this event will help with a child advocacy role for CARI and to reduce the lengthy waiting list for counselling at Galway Rape Crises Centre. Victims currently have to wait approximately six months for vital follow up counselling.
