What's more, she was celebrating yesterday after marking a year's sobriety; the last drink she had was on October 15, 2012, and the star says that the last 12 months of abstinence have left her with a "cleaner" mind.

Speaking on the opening night of her Alive stadium tour in Belfast on Tuesday, she told the Daily Mirror: "It has made a difference. Honestly, I think when you live cleaner, your mind is cleaner."

Some Brits find that, with the UK's drinking culture - which has seen a 9% rise in alcohol consumption in the last three decades - their social life changes when they give it up. Not so this Essex lass.

She said: "Not drinking hasn't been too tough on my social life and going out, as I don't have many friends.

"I mean that in a positive way. I have the friends I need and that's it. And they fit in my life."

During the interview, the singer also mentioned her new, simpler look, which was born when she decided to start styling herself. It hasn't saved her money, since she was previously lent outfits which she would have to return after a single use.

She said: "I have to buy it myself now. But I do get to keep it, which is great. For example, I used to hate it when I got to wear an amazing coat just the once.

"I feel like I look simpler now and that it's all about my voice."
