Snooki is eliminated on "Dancing with the Stars"

Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi and her partner Sasha Farber have been eliminated from 'Dancing With the Stars.'

Snooki was snookered.

"Jersey Shore" alum Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi was eliminated from "Dancing With the Stars" Monday night - despite boasting high scores near the top of the leader board this week -- in one of the most shocking results in reality dancing competition's 17 season history.

"I can't even talk right now, I love everybody here, so it sucks," said a stunned Polizzi, whose zombie makeup from her Halloween-themed dance was in danger of smearing from the tears.

No one was more surprised by the announcement than Bill Engvall, who had the lowest scores of the past two weeks.

Her competition looked even more shocked than she was - particularly Southern comic Bill Engvall who rounded out the bottom two and had the lowest scores of the night. The judges' scores, however, just count for one of half of the contestants' total points; the voting public do the rest - and they clearly didn't lift their thumbs to text for Snooki in great numbers.

It's been clear on the show in the past that, for reality television stars in particular, celebrity doesn't always equal popularity.

"This is the one of the hardest ones we've had to deal with in a while," said co-host Tom Bergeron.

With Polizzi's exit, front runners Amber Riley from "Glee" and "High School Musical" star Corbin Bleu, "Showgirls" actress Elizabeth Berkley, "King of Queens'" Leah Remini, "Pretty Little Liars" cast member Brant Daugherty and heavy metal scion Jack Osbourne join Engvall in the final seven.

As she was consoled by cast-mates, Polizzi took so long to make her way down to the stage to say her goodbyes that ABC had to start "Castle" a couple of minutes late.

"Why am I leaving a zombie," she wailed.

"Zombies come back," retorted Bergeron.
