Brittany Murphy, the young star of "Clueless" and "8 Mile" who died suddenly in 2009, may have been poisoned, suggests an independent toxicology test ordered by Murphy's biological father, the Huffington Post reports.
The 32-year-old's death was deemed accidental from pneumonia, multiple drug intoxication, anemia and an iron deficiency. Her husband, Simon Monjack, died in the same house five months later; his death was attributed to pneumonia as well.
Angelo Bertolotti, who split from Murphy's mother when Brittany was young, had unsuccessfully sued the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office to reopen the investigation, but he did obtain samples of her hair, blood and tissue for the independent test, which turned "abnormally high quantities" of heavy metals typically found in rat poison and pesticides, he tells the Huffington Post. He claims the lab says the these toxins must have been given to Murphy "by a third party with criminal intent."
The Coroner's Office says it can't comment on private lab tests because they have not been given them for analysis.
