At 8 p.m. ET, Katy Perry will open the American Music Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles with her latest ballad, "Unconditionally."

If that is not enough to get you excited for tonight, Miley Cyrus -- as she is known to do -- will shut things down as the scheduled show closer. After her VMAs performance that is still getting buzzed about, the show's finale could be glorious or weird -- depending on how you look at it.

Also set to perform are Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line, with Pitbull hosting the event.

In addition to the awards and the performances, Rihanna will receive the Icon Award, which honors an artist whose body of work has made a huge influence in pop culture around the globe.
