Quite an honour, Mr Governor! Saturday evening lit up the city when the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) held its first textile and clothing show in Lahore, at the Governor House.

Hosted by actress/model Juggan Kazim, the event featured speeches and slide presentations of key figures at APTMA, comprising of a clothing/fashion show by some of the leading designers of the country, followed by a lavish dinner prepared for the guests. APTMA Chairman Yasin Siddik expressed his relief and joy for the implementation of an activity like this and urged to government to lend their support for more of this. “I thank the EU for changing priorities and preferences by granting Pakistan GSP Plus status. All APTMA entities belong to the corporate sector, which is the largest employer of the country,” Siddik said.

A presentation followed highlighting Pakistan’s achievements over the past years, paying a tribute to its growth and successes. APTMA International Trade Committee head Amir Fayyaz termed the textile industry as “largest industry of Pakistan”. APTMA Federal Task Force on Energy and group leader Gohar Ejaz urged the government to invest in the textile industry for it to facilitate trade and not lag behind in international business. “We want trade, not aid,” he said.

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar expressed his satisfaction on Pakistan achieving the GSP Plus status in the EU. “The textile industry is the backbone of Pakistan,” Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said.

The clothing show finally commenced featuring a children’s show where kids walked the ramp, all dolled and glammed up, followed by casual trend show where models presented creations by various fashion houses in Western attire. Ace designer Ali Xeeshan opened the designer’s show, presenting a few of his creations. We loved the net umbrella stunt from his this year’s PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week collection. We especially loved Omar Farooq of Republic’s stunning menswear. Surely, the brand never fails to impress. Sania Maskatiya followed with Sadaf Malaterre that we just loved for its uniqueness. Wardah Saleem’s interesting combinations had the audience enthralled. Menswear designer Munib Nawaz, Zara Shahjahan, YBQ followed suit. We loved designer house Kuki Concepts for its amazing black and white womens’ wear traditional meets Western prêt piece. Very meticulously and beautifully done, indeed. Élan and Adnan Pardesy followed. We also loved a Fahad Hussayn orange and gold dress, but just the colours, whereas Sana Safinaz presented a stunning outfit.

Crescent’s Faraz Manan did the finale with a wide range of collection segments, of which we especially loved the red and gold ones. The young designer’s hard work was evident from his collection, which walked on perfect song sequences. Shazia Deen of Neemaar had especially designed the jewellery for Faraz’s collection.

The evening ended on a lavish dinner served to the guests at the event. The second APTMA Textile and Clothing Show is reportedly taking place in New York next year in March.

The styling and make-up was done by Sabs Salon, whereas the choreography was done by Frieha Altaf of Catalyst PR and Catwalk Events which also handled the PR for the show.
