Hollywood’s glitz and glamor is set to hit the international fashion world again next year, and dresses inspired by eternal Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor — with bold colors, plunging necklines and sparkling embellishments — will be making a comeback in 2014, according to Indonesian fashion designer and celebrity favorite Arantxa Adi.

“We’ll be reminded more of [Elizabeth Taylor] next year,” he said.

“Some of her classic movies, including the famous ‘Cleopatra’ [1963], are being remade. And her biography will also be released next year.”

The 35-year-old confessed to being a big fan of Elizabeth Taylor.

“I truly adore her,” he said. “She’s a highly talented artist and a true jet-setter.”

Inspired by the late actress, the fashion designer presented his 2014 collection in his annual fashion show, themed “The VIPs,” in Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Ballfroom, Central Jakarta, on Dec. 11.

“The VIPs” is also the title of a widely popular movie by Elizabeth Taylor. The 1963 drama tells the story of international socialites and celebrities who find themselves stranded in the V.I.P. Lounge of London Heathrow Airport.

“It was in this movie that she fell in love with her future husband Richard Burton,” Arantxa said.

For the show, the designer collaborated with Indonesia’s top show-business talent, including choreographer Panca Makmun, creative director Jay Subiakto, show director Inet Leimena and art director Ria Sirjono.

“It’s not just a fashion show, but a lifestyle event,” Jay said.

The show commenced with a series of beautiful white and off-white dresses made of sheer Chantilly lace and silk organdy, exuding classic elegance and feminine charm.

A collection of dresses in various shades of green — a color Arantxa predicts to be popular in 2014 —followed suit.

“People are becoming more eco-friendly these days,” said the designer. “They lead back-to-nature lifestyles and adore natural colors, especially green.”

A Caucasian model looked enchanting in a khaki green cocktail dress. The top part of the dress was made entirely of sheer Chantilly lace enhanced with hand-embroideries on the chest. The skirt was designed to resemble a pareo — a wraparound skirt— and was embellished with elaborate floral appliques down the front.

Silver-hued gowns followed next.

Indonesian supermodel Paula Verhoeven was the highlight of the session. The 26-year-old wore a silver mini dress, adorned with silver beads and crystals. Elaborate ruffles cascaded from the top front of the dress, down to her hips and extended to a long train behind the dress.

After a break, the show continued with a series of pink and red evening dresses, one of which was worn by Indonesian top model Laura Muljadi who looked stunning in a long, strapless, red gown. Its bodice was enhanced with a delicately hand-embroidered floral pattern. The skirt, overlaid with tulle, was adorned with a contemporary abstract motif. Handcrafted black-and-silver choker and earrings, by Indonesian accessories designer Utty Wakkary, enhanced her elegant look.

Indonesian top model Kimmy Jayanti also looked stunning in a long salmon-hued dress made of brocade and organdy silk. The skirt was enhanced with a thigh-high slit that swayed seductively as the model sashayed on the runway. A layered necklace, in a silver hue matching the model’s cropped hair, completed her futuristic look.

The fashion show ended with the appearance of Indonesian actress Luna Maya in a glamorous A-line white gown made of gazar. The dress looked plain and simple at the front, but when the stunning 30-year-old turned around, she revealed elaborate frills cascading beautifully down her spine.

Indonesian actress and model Aimee Juliet loved Arantxa’s new collection.

“Arantxa turns something very simple into something tasteful and glamorous,” said Aimee, who wore Arantxa’s golden long dress enhanced with rows of ostrich feathers on the hemlines.

“His dresses are always sexy, but not too much.
