The year-end festivities have started, and Delhi party enthusiasts have already lined up their top parties and social events to bid adieu to 2013. However, for those who are still struggling with their last minute wardrobe rush, here’s a quick lowdown on how to rock at the parties with a cost-friendly budget.

When it comes to social dos, black is a colour than never goes out of style. If you are a fan of the dark hue but do not want to merge in the crowd of LBDs on New Year’s Eve, then follow some simple tips. Designer Shouger Merchant Doshi, advises, “Dress up your LBD with bling accessories and a pair of great pumps. You can invest in a pair of bright coloured pumps — purple, coral pink, sea green, crimson red or jade green and pair it with neckpieces and a good clutch. A great gold and black belt can also glam up your plain black dress, and a bejewelled long cuff will dress up a solid coloured outfit. Take your old bandage dress and add a layer of tulle at the bottom to give it a new look.”

Designer Sandhya Shah, who feels a black dress is mandatory at a winter evening party, recommends, “One can wear a jazzy scarf around the neck or shoulder with a chunky neckpiece with a black dress. A dress worn with a chic jacket and a broach can also enhance the whole outfit. People who prefer wearing pants and top can go for a thick belt and embellished shoes studded with crystals. To accessorise just put two or three neckpieces together tastefully and get a new colorful ornament to go with your dress.”

Whereas, designer Anuradha Ramam mentions that to look like a million bucks one need not spend a fortune, one can also do the trick with loads of attitude and clever dressing. She says, “A long black dress is an ideal investment. It can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion. It can be teamed with a short-cropped multi-patch kantha contemporary jacket and a red silk stole, a pair of boots adds to the flair. Retro make-up is in and changes the entire look, a winged eyeliner and a red rose can transform any look to make one look very stylish.”

Designer duo Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor propose a rather colourful riot for parties to look upbeat. They say, “Winter does not mean only black, you can pop into colours like bright neons to look different. Opt for a style that suits your body type and also in sync with the place you are going to. Add colours and sparkle to your outfit to glitter in the crowd and be the eye candy of the party. For a girly style with a bit of an edge, team a short textured shift with your party shoes and bag. Put on chunky black ankle boots and a matching clutch.”

For men who love to make a statement at parties, go with basics to look like a dreamboat. Designer Pawan Sachdeva says, “Invest in a velvet blazer and go in for colours like royal blue, forest green or mango yellow to stand out in the crowd. One can also play with a colourful tie and pocket square preferably a neon colour to go with a plain suit. If you are going for a tuxedo, try pairing it with a monochromatic blazer and change the look.”

Designer Poonam Bajaj urges men to add some bright colours in their outfit to look distinctive. She says, “Adding colour to the attire is the best way of dressing and it makes your outfit lively. It could be contrast or one bright colour in your attire. Another thing that can make you trendy are neon glasses or colourful sunglasses. Invest in a leather jacket that goes really well with any kind of jeans.”
