When you tell us that Ellen DeGeneres is hosting this year's Academy Awards, there are three things we expect: formal wear, good-spirited fun and dancing. And even after just the first trailer, we have all of them.
ABC's new preview for the Oscars takes the celebration to the street, as Ellen (and seemingly every professional dancer in L.A.) struts her stuff on an urban set that we've already seen too many times on episodes of "How I Met Your Mother."
The dance sequence is pulled off in a single take that tracks backwards through the fake street, following Ellen as she's joined by more and more formally dressed dancers. The stylish trailer comes compliments of "Bridesmaids" and "The Heat" director Paul Feig.
The 2014 Oscars will be Ellen's second time hosting. She previously hosted in 2007, so the audience may be more familiar with the show — a quick turnaround from Seth MacFarlane's unexpected (and mostly unwelcomed) ceremony last year.
What will get people talking, however, is the competition for the biggest awards of the evening. Since 2013 was widely acknowledged as an all-around great year for movies, the Oscars for Best Picture, Director, Actor and Actress are sure to stir up some controversy. No matter who wins, there will be some nominees that people will undoubtedly feel got robbed. It's going to be a hard year to predict winners, and that will probably make for a drama-filled evening.
The 86th Academy Awards will take place on March 2, 2014 and air on ABC.
