Fontaine was the sister of “Gone With the Wind” star Olivia de Havilland, 98, with whom she had a bitter rivalry; the two stopped talking to each other some time in the mid-1970s.
The Washington Post summed up the situation wonderfully with this quote from Fontaine: “I married first, won the Oscar before Olivia did, and if I die first, she’ll undoubtedly be livid because I beat her to it!”
