The world lost one of the last great actresses from the golden age of Hollywood when Joan Fontaine died at age 96 on Sunday.

The Oscar-winning star appeared in myriad classic films, most notably “The Women,” “Rebecca” and “Suspicion,” for which she won an Academy Award.

Fontaine was the sister of “Gone With the Wind” star Olivia de Havilland, 98, with whom she had a bitter rivalry; the two stopped talking to each other some time in the mid-1970s.

The Washington Post summed up the situation wonderfully with this quote from Fontaine: “I married first, won the Oscar before Olivia did, and if I die first, she’ll undoubtedly be livid because I beat her to it!”

Well, you won, Jane. But we will miss you.
