Apparently a two-hour season premiere wasn't enough to kick off the 18th season of "The Bachelor."
No. The two-night season premiere began with a countdown to the contestants actually meeting Juan Pablo Galavis, the suave Latino single dad and former ninth season "Bachelorette" contestant.
Desiree Hartsock didn't want the "sexy," 32-year-old Miami native in the long run, but this countdown proved that many other women do.
Aside from airing footage of Chris Harrison surprising the new contestants with roses in their hometowns, we sort of got to know this season's star.
Juan Pablo was born in the United States but grew up in Venezuela. He ended up playing soccer professionally until 2008, when he retired to be there for his newborn daughter, Camila.
The bachelor made his mission clear: He wants to find someone that he can spend the rest of his life with, someone who will be a stepmother to his daughter.
We got to meet Juan Pablo's family members, who offered their thoughts on his role on the TV show. His cousins feel weird about seeing him making out with women. The men in his family gave him advice, such as waiting 15 minutes and brushing teeth between make-out sessions, and being patient.
There was also a tribute to Gia Allemand, a contestant from season 14 of "The Bachelor" who killed herself last year. She vied for Jake Pavelka's love, and made it to the top three contestants before she was eliminated.
Even Chris Harrison said that all the action starts in the second installment of the two-night premiere — which looks like it will be the standard introductions episode.
A sneak peak of the upcoming season at least shows there will be plenty of drama between the girls vying for his love, along with plenty of romantic moments.
