The more Lady Gaga reveals about ARTPOP the more her recent stage costumes and outfits make sense. Take "Venus," for instance. The song that was originally announced as the second single off the album (replaced by the R. Kelly collaboration "Do What U Want"), pays homage to a look she rocked at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
"Aphrodite lady, seashell bikini," Gaga sings in a 40-second snippet posted on Friday (October 25).
And though "Venus" is now just a promotional single, Gaga assured fans earlier this week that the thumping tune will get its own time to shine later. "Don't worry monsters! We are still scheduled to release #Venus this Monday with a snippet on Friday!" she tweeted. "AND it will STILL have its own video."
She also revealed on Friday that the "Venus" cover art was shot by famed photographer Steven Klein. In fact, the "Alejandro" and "Fame" collaborator shot a sequence of images that will be used for the "Venus" cover, including one in which a topless Gaga has a scorpion on her face and a visible cut on her upper torso, another that looks like a bat spread out over her face and a third featuring her naked in a bathroom with a gold object in her mouth.

In the preview of the song (whose accompanying video is an image of Gaga with a scorpion on her face), Gaga sings, "Rock #9/Take off to the planet (to the planet)/Venus/Aphrodite lady, seashell bikini (garden panty)/Venus/Let's blast off to our new dimension (in your bedroom)," over a minimal, throbbing disco beat.
The reveal came just hours after Gaga got misty while performing the new ballad "Gypsy" for a group of hand-selected fans in Berlin at an ARTPOP listening party.
