“PREPARING for the competition has been hard.”

These are the words of Miss Great Britain hopeful Courtney Thurgood, of Overseal, ahead of her attempt to beat 55 other budding beauties to win the coveted title on Friday.

The 20-year-old Mount Pleasant Residential Home worker was selected to take part after scooping a host of awards at the Miss Derby competition.

The former William Allitt School pupil said: “With working full time it is hard to find time to get organised but I’m managing and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Miss Derby and I have been meeting up and talking, helping each other prepare for the final, doing checklists, and gossiping pageant talk.

“We are travelling down together and are very excited for our pageant road trip.

“It has been stressful sorting my outfits, luckily they have all arrived this week, and just in time, fitting perfect.

“I am trying to represent and be a role model for younger girls wishing to partake in these events, and to show anything is possible if you believe in yourself.”

Talk soon moved to discussing the day of the competition.

She said: “All of the finalists are travelling down to meet on the Thursday morning.

“We are then settled into our hotel room and then rehearsals begin going through step by step learning routines of what we will be doing at the final.

“On the day of the competition we will spend the morning in rehearsals, going through the routines, and knowing the order of walking on and off and which outfit comes when.

“There are three outfits. The first being a dress, second is a bikini and third being our ball gown/evening dress. There is also a talent round and interviews.”

Miss Thurgood said that no matter what the result, she did not know if she will continue taking part in other similar events.

She added: “I can’t say for definite that I will do another pageant, however, I said that after Miss Great Britain Derby regionals and now look where I am.

“You just get that buzz. We like to call it pageant fever.”

She told the Mail that she wanted to use her experiences to offer advice to others wishing to take part.

“My only advice to anyone wishing to take part in a pageant is to go into it open minded and enjoy it,” she said.

“Yes, everybody would love to win but at the end of the day there can only be one winner, so don’t be disheartened. Just enjoy every second of the experience. Most importantly have fun.”

Anyone who would like to vote for Courtney in her bid to win can text MISSGB 41 to 64343 or call 09075 989899 and, when prompted, enter 41.
