War movie veteran Mark Wahlberg is making a tactical retreat from comments that were widely interpreted as a slam of Tom Cruise.

The “Lone Survivor” star told a TMZ cameraman Thursday that his diatribe a few days earlier slamming actors who compare themselves to real-life Am was not directed at his fellow action star.

“I didn’t know that Tom Cruise was the one who said that,” the 42-year-old Wahlberg told the gossip site. “I love Tom Cruise.”

Wahlberg, though, meant every word of his sentiment when he was asked about actors who feel their work is as intense as actual combat at Tuesday’s AFI Fest screening of his new movie, in which he plays the real-life Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell.

"For actors to sit there and talk about 'Oh I went to SEAL training,' and I slept on the — I don't give a f--k what you did," Wahlberg said at the event, according to The Wrap.

"You don't do what these guys did. For somebody to sit there and say my job was as difficult as somebody in the military's. How f--king dare you. While you sit in a makeup chair for two hours."

Wahlberg, who also played a Marine in 1999’s “Three Kings,” is famously committed to charities honoring U.S. troops.

Because of the timing, the tongue-lashing had seemed to be indirectly addressing comments made by Cruise, after court papers were made public in which the "Valkyrie" star responded to a lawyer's question comparing the extended time away from his daughter Suri while filming a movie to a soldier's tour in Afghanistan.

The 51-year-old actor had said it felt like being away at war especially during his last movie, "Oblivion."
