"Leaving on a Jet Plane" could have been prophetic for "The Voice"contestant Caroline Pennell of Saddle River, who found herself in the bottom three after performing the John Denver classic Monday night. But she earned the most tweets in the show's "instant save" gambit, and made it into the top eight.
Coach Adam Levine, whose three singers made it through tonight's results show without a scratch, threw his support behind Pennell: "Caroline, what you're doing is just pure magic," he told her before host Carson Daly announced who would be kicked off.
Pennell's fellow Team Cee Lo singer Kat Robichaud was not so lucky: After being the recipient of last week's instant save, she was also in the bottom three and was sent home, along with Austin Jenckes, the burly, bearded country singer for whose loss coach Blake Shelton said he took 100 percent of the responsiblity. "This guy lives and breathes music," Shelton said after learning Austin was in the bottom three. "I don't know a more passionate vocalist out there."
That leaves Team Cee Lo with only Pennell to mentor, while Team Blake and Team Christina are both down one singer. Safe, in order announced: James Wolpert (Team Adam), Matthew Schuler (Team Christina); Ray Boudreaux (Team Blake); Will Champlin and Tessanne Chin (Team Adam); Jacquie Lee (Team Christina) and Cole Vosbury (Team Blake).
