FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -- Beyonce was a hit with many fans when she gave out gift cards and visited with shoppers at a local Walmart, but now some people are upset with the intro to one of her new songs.

In the singer’s song XO she uses six seconds of audio from the challenger disaster in 1986.

The voice you hear is NASA public affairs officer Steve Nesbitt reacting to the disaster.

Beyonce's choice is causing controversy with several family members of the Challenger astronauts.

While some say the sample isn't a big deal, others are scratching their heads.

Christa McAuliffe, the teacher turned astronaut who died that day, is from Framingham.

"I got chills because I remember it so well, it was such a terrible time for Framingham, for the kids, for the family, for the library where Christa used to come and study,” Sherry Baker, a librarian at the McAuliffe Library in Framingham, said.

She says the sample is in bad taste.

"It's a tragedy that we need to honor but I don't know if that's really honoring, lyrics in a pop song,” Baker said.
