Two men who allegedly stole a piece of 's wrecked Porsche Carrera GT have been officially charged. Prosecutors announced on Monday, December 9 that the two men, 18-year-old Jameson Witty and 25-year-old Anthony Janow, were charged with one felony count of grand theft of personal property.
In addition to the felony charge, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said that Witty and Janow were charged with misdemeanor counts of destroying evidence and resisting, obstructing and delaying a peace officer. If convicted, the two will spend up to 4 years and 6 months in jail.
The twosome were accused of stealing a piece of the wrecked car's rooftop following the tragic accident which killed the "" star and his friend Roger Rodas on November 30. The pair allegedly took the roof panel when a tow truck carrying the car stopped at red light. The truck's driver reported the theft to the authorities and they found it at a home in Canyon Country.
An Instagram user who goes by @jamesonwhitty posted a photo of the car's part on the photo-sharing site. The user later posted a note to apologize. "And for everyone to say how I should kill myself or disappear is immature and childish. This is not a message to try and get me off the hook, I am taking full responsibility for the manner of my actions," he captioned the post.
