To close out her crazy 2013, Miley Cyrus is opening up about her split from Liam Hemsworth during Barbara Walters' "The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013" special, airing Wednesday.

"I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year," she tells Walters in a preview from the special, which also honors Jennifer Lawrence and Kimye, among other celebrities and luminaries.

"I don't ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can't be yourself," she said, adding her honest comments about the Bangerz track, "Drive," which chronicles a breakup. "I don't think there was any, any lies."

Cyrus and Hemsworth announced their engagement in June 2012 after meeting on the set of "The Last Song" in 2009. However, 2013 brought on a constant barrage of rumors that their relationship was in trouble. And in September, they confirmed their split.

"I think I'll want that in the times that it needs to be. I don't think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn't change being engaged," she said in the teaser for the Walters special. "It was so fun wearing a fat rock for a few years. But now, I just feel like I can actually be happy. I wait for those moments of silence, when I'm just at my house, by myself."

Just as the preview was making the rounds, Cyrus denied a rumor that she and French Montana are an item after a report surfaced from over the weekend that they were seen "getting very hot and steamy" in NYC while she was in town for Jingle Ball. French appears on her 2013 album release. But Miley took to Twitter to shoot down the report, so it doesn't look like French Montana and Hannah Montana will be an item anytime soon.

"DONT hug your friends goodbye unless you wanna be rumored 'dating,' " she tweeted. "I wanna think more of the world but people just keep proving their stupidity."
