Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, David Koechner and musical guest One Direction join host Rudd in his monologue, while Wiig and Fred Armisen return in 'Sound of Music Live!' spoof.
's Ron Burgundy has been everywhere on television in the past few weeks. After appearing on several TV news programs as his "" character, the actor made a surprise guest appearance as himself in the latest episode of "" hosted by , who also stars in "".
In his monologue, Rudd recalled how musical guests and overshadowed him in his past two hosting stints. The same situation could repeat once again as entered the stage and was welcomed with a thunderous applause from the audience.
This time, however, Rudd was prepared for it. He brought in his "Anchorman 2" co-stars Ferrell, and , introducing them, "You've got your boy band, well I've brought my man band."
A funny banter ensued with Ferrell claiming he was ready to fight, but they ended up teaming up to sing "Afternoon Delight". "We are Nine Direction," Rudd declared after the performance.
The British/Irish boyband also appeared in a skit titled "One Direction Concert Line", where Rudd played Dan Charles, One Direction's #1 fan. He asked to sign a photo and when the boybander asked, "Oh you're a great dad, what's her name?" he responded, "Her name is Dan Charles."
Making the episode more special was a surprise return of former "SNL" cast members and . The twosome joined forces to spoof "" starring and in the cold open. Wiig played one of the von Trapp children, Dooneese, who ruined the classic song "Do-Re-Mi".
After the kids getting punished by their father for singing in the house and another musical number, Armisen showed up to ask, "Wasn't that wonderful and moving and still way too long for anyone to bear?"
