The theft allegedly occurred when the wrecked Porshe Carrera GT Paul Walker died in was being brought to the impound lot.

Their stunt backfired, and now two men have been charged with stealing a roof panel off the wrecked Porsche that Paul Walker was riding in when he died, prosecutors said Monday.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney said Jameson Brooks Witty, 18, and Anthony Edward Janow, 25, face up to four years and six months in county jail if convicted on all counts.

The new filing accuses the men of felony grand theft of personal property and two misdemeanor counts each of destroying evidence and resisting, obstructing and delaying a peace officer.

Janow is expected to surrender Tuesday in court.

After the alleged theft, Witty posted a photo of the red panel on Twitter with the caption: "Piece of Paul Walker's car, took it off a tow truck at a stop light."

The 40-year-old 'Fast & Furious' star died when the Porshe he was riding in crashed on Nov. 30.

He was arrested at his home Thursday but later bailed out and is due back in court Jan. 3.

Prosecutors allege the men stole the panel from a tow truck while it was stopped at a red light on Nov. 30.

The tow truck was taking the demolished and charred vehicle to an impound yard for further investigation after it left the crash scene around 10 p.m.

Prosecutors claim Witty and Janow were warned by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy to keep their sticky fingers to themselves.

Walker, the 40-year-old star of the "Fast & Furious" movie franchise, died from traumatic and thermal injuries after his racing team partner Roger Rodas lost control of his 2005 Porsche Carrera GT near a charity event at the men's high-performance auto shop, Always Evolving, in Valencia.

Rodas, a married father of two, also died when his car slammed into a pole and a tree and burst into flames.
