Zac Posen’s latest range of stunning, glamorous cocktail and eveningwear may be for Pre-Fall, but you’re going to see it a lot sooner.
The designer mentioned phrases like “awards season” and “Met Ball” more than once during the intimate presentation held at his downtown studio Thursday afternoon — a showing that was made even more fabulous by model Anna Cleveland, Pat Cleveland’s daughter. She really brought the clothes to life with dancer-like movements (example below) and an energy we rarely see from models.
As we’ve come to expect from Posen, drama and romance came in large quantities. At the same time, though, there was also a delicateness and a quietness to many of the pieces. The voluminous Alaia-esque skirts on a few floor-length ball gowns were slightly sheer — a quality that made them feel lighter. Posen also went with a pretty innocuous color palette — most looks were black or dark gray, with a few instances of jewel-box tones, like navy, silver, deep purple and one flash of bright red on a lovely pleated cocktail dress. Everything was figure-flattering, timeless and elegant.
While it was difficult to get beyond the glamorous eveningwear — there wasn’t a single dress that I couldn’t picture on an A-lister — Posen also threw in a few more separates than usual. The voluminous jackets and hip-hugging skirts were attractive options for those of us who don’t have red carpet events to attend.
As for my personal favorite, it’s a toss-up between an apricot strapless cocktail dress — which Posen paired brilliantly with a super chic light fur jacket, and a slinky, black floor-length slip-like dress with a scoop back. All of it was pretty flawless, though.
