The year that went by, gave us a lot - neons and prints, smart fits and bold colours, unusual drapes and unique cuts - over all an indefinable year, fashion wise.

Goodbye

Neons was probably one of the biggest trend we saw this year - even amongst the non-fashion freaks (although in their defence, the bright colours were hard to miss). Says designer Ashish Parikh, "There is a high chance that the neon trend will fade away this year. 2013 was a year which is beyond description - it was a year of youthful and bold clothing, of mix and match and even kitsch!" Other trends we could see ourselves bidding adieu to are peplums, harems (thank goodness!) and maybe also extrabling phenomenon.

What stays?

Last year gave us some trends to be thankful for - random, quirky prints, beautiful layered clothing, classy sheers and fits to die for. This year's fashion will only take these trends forward. Men got bolder last year with their experiments and that is something that will continue. Designer Rajvi Kinkhabwala says, "From fabrics to cuts and styles, everything was experimented with - from ramps to college parties - flirty A-line skirts, shoulderb a r i n g bodices, , bold colours and stunning evening wear - these ruled yesterday and they are hot even !" Translucent saris and floor length layered anarkalis for women and bright coloured jackets for men are also expected to stay.

Welcoming trends

Designer Darshi Shah forecasts, "The new trends we could expect to see this year are well fitting shorts teamed with flowy shirts even as minimalistic and classy maxi dresses will make a comeback and Indianness will rule hearts on ramps and in the city." Apart from these, all leather outfits have also been quite the rage and are expected to pick up.

Bright coloured, well-fitting skirts worn with understated blouses and shirts and creative drapes are also something we can expect to see.

So turn over a fresh page, get bolder, give yourself the freedom to experiment and promise to turn one year younger in 2014.
