gotg 10 This issue of Guardians of the Galaxy essentially just showcases Angela and Gamora kicking ass, which is in no way a bad thing. The conversations that happen occur while heads are being chopped off, monster impaled and dudes choked out. It's one big fight scene and it's tons of fun. I even found myself, dare I say it, enjoying Angela. She doesn't feel shoehorned into this, which is kind spectacular. Guardians of the Galaxy has been a solid series and worthy addition to your pull list, and this issue is a great reminder as to why.

The star of the show here is Kevin Maguire. His smooth, dynamic art makes this issue pop. The action looks fantastic, and there's plenty of it to dig into. The characters and their expressions are superb, as well. Gamora's sly, sideways looks and Angela's sinister grimace really make the issue, they bring you into the moments and don't require a huge dump of dialogue. Guardians of the Galaxy #10 is a big, fat showcase for his talent and the results are stunning.

Brian Bendis might have just been writing to the strength of his artist, but this is a bit reserved for him. You get lots of talking heads in the first few pages, but once the crap hits the fan he reels it back and lets Maguire do his thing. The dialogue we do get is snappy and to the point, without overdone attempts at humor and banter. This just might be the best series Bendis is writing right now, and considering how good the X-Men universe is right now, that's really saying something.
