He seems like an unlikely advocate of his music, even if he did try rapping himself once, but it's true - Joaquin Phoenix is a Kanye West fan!

And not only that, but he said going to one the star's concerts reminded him of being young again!

The 39-year-old actor went to a gig in Los Angeles as part of West's Yeezus tour and said he felt like a teenager again.

Speaking to MTV News, he said: "I went and I saw his tour recently, I saw 'Yeezus' at Staples Center, and it was the most fun I've had since I was like 14."

Joaquin Phoenix thought Kanye West's Yeezus tour was "f***ing brilliant!" (WENN)

"It was such an amazing show. That's really the only thing I can say about Kanye, is that I saw his show and I thought it was f***ing brilliant."

Joaquin, who used to be called by his hippy name Leaf, was at the same show that hit headlines earlier in the year when Kanye was joined on stage by a man dressed to resemble Jesus.

Joaquin turned his hand to rapping three years ago when he announced, bearded and somewhat thicker around the middle, he was set to abandon his successful acting career to be a hip-hop star.

The whole thing was to be captured in the documentary I'm Still Here, directed by Casey Affleck, but it turned out to be a mockumentary.

But he said even though it was a hoax, the joke actually helped liberate his entire career.

Speaking to TIME magazine, he said: "Part of why I was frustrated with acting was because I took it so seriously.

"I want it to be so good that I get in my own way. It’s like love: when you fall in love, you’re not yourself anymore. You lose control of being natural and showing the beautiful parts of yourself, and all somebody recognizes is this total desperation. And that’s very unattractive.

"Once I became a total buffoon, it was so liberating."

Joaquin is currently starring in Her, a Spike Jonze film which tells the story of a man who develops a relationship with a female voice - Scarlett Johansson - produced by an intelligent computer operating system.
