DENVER — There is a cover controversy for Elle Magazine on social media this week — even though the woman on it loves her cover photo.
There are accusations the publication is racist and “fat-ist.”
The image is a black and white photo of Mindy Project star Mindy Kaling. It’s part of a series of covers featuring the funny women on television.
The rest of the covers featuring Amy Poehler, Allison Williams and Zooey Deschanel are featured in cover photos that are closer to full length and in color.

Critics say Kaling’s cover is racist because it is in black and white. While others say it’s “fat-ist” because it only shows her from the chest up.
Elle Magazine says Kaling’s cover is sexy and chic.
The actress tried to defuse any controversy, tweeting that she thinks her Elle cover is great.
I love my @ELLEmagazine cover. It made me feel glamorous & cool. And if anyone wants to see more of my body, go on thirteen dates with me.—
