Katie Holmes Joins Twitter with Taylor Swift Shout-Out, Possibly at Suri's Urging - Vanity Fair

Kate Holmes—actress/fashion designer, mother of Suri, and tabloid-rumored paramour of both George Clooney and Jamie Foxx—has joined Twitter! The news comes from VF.com’s celebrity-Twitter-feed authority, Alyssa Bereznak, who offers her sincerest congratulations to Katie and hopes that she chooses to follow @VanityFair in the near future. (We’ll follow back!) It is unclear whether Holmes’s decision to begin social-networking was influenced by Suri, her sassily dressed seven-year-old daughter. We can’t help but think it was.

Katie joined the site from South Africa, where she is currently filming The Giver, Phillip Noyce’s adaptation of Lois Lowry’s dystopian children’s book. Her first Tweet features her with fellow cast members Jeff Bridges, who is playing the eponymous character, Taylor Swift(!), Odeya Rush, and Cameron Monaghan. Holmes will play the mother of the main character in the Newbery Medal–winning book, Jonas, with Meryl Streep co-starring as the chief elder of Jonas’s community.

Earlier this week, Holmes and Suri were photographed going on a safari adventure at the Aquila Game Reserve in Cape Town, South Africa. (Suri accessorized with sparkly flats and a toy giraffe, natch.) Holmes has also been seen bonding with her co-stars over dinner.

Holmes’s other tweets include an enthusiastic “hello” to the Twitterverse (“So happy to be on twitter!!!!!! Sending first tweets from South Africa!!!!!”) and a shout-out to Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, for which she is a spokesperson. We hope that Suri’s own Twitter feed is close behind.
