It isn’t often that a designer is offered a double-dip, making back-to-back appearances on the island with his or her collection. But the folks at the Worth Avenue branches of Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus must see something special in designer Rubin Singer. This relative newcomer to the American fashion scene was at Saks this past week and will appear across Worth Avenue at Neiman’s on Thursday and Friday.

We caught up with Singer at Saks last week and asked him why he thinks the two stores are so wild for him that he’d be double-booked for December appearances in Palm Beach. The designer, who is New York-based and launched his collection in 2008, said it probably has something to do with “filling a void in the market for evening, cocktail and dressy daywear.”

Singer also believes that his clothes, while sophisticated and glamorous, can be a little edgier and sexier than those available from other designer collections.

They also appeal to a wide range of clients. “The same dress can be worn by a 17-year-old and a 70-year-old,” he said, noting that his two most famous customers — Beyoncé Knowles, who wore a Singer design for her performance at the last Super Bowl; and actress Glenn Close, who has prominently worn his frocks on several red carpets — reflect the diversity of his customer base.

The designer finds Palm Beach women “worldly and cultured. They’ve seen everything and don’t need anything. They want to be wowed.”

Singer’s clothes cost from $850 to $12,000. It’s his first season at Saks. Neiman’s has carried his collection for three years.

On trend — The St. John Boutique, 256 Worth Ave., presented a luncheon show of resort and spring looks at The Mar-a-Lago Club on Thursday. The well-edited show offered just over 20 looks.

During the event, Deborah Arthur, merchandise specialist/buyer based at St. John headquarters in Southern California, informed the audience — consisting of club members and regular boutique clients — about the trends in dressing for the current and upcoming seasons.

“It’s all about vibrant colors and some glitz and glamour,” Arthur said. Dresses and separates, called “easy pairings,” are emphasized, with the suit, a St. John staple, less of a factor. Capes are in, as are legging-style pants, floral prints, wearing a single color head to toe, and super-relaxed “pajama dressing.”

Color statement — For Wednesday’s “Tie to the Cause” reception at Club Colette, held in honor of the Susan G. Komen supporters on the island known as the “Pink Tie Guys,” the “guys” will be wearing some pretty snappy neckwear, as one would expect.

The new Brioni store, 251 Worth Ave., supplied the selection of appropriately toned silk neckties that the gents will wear to the party. The ties (available in a range of colors if pink isn’t your thing) cost $215 a pop.

For information about the event or the upcoming Komen fundraiser, the Perfect Pink Party, call 307-8000 or visit palmbeach@komen.org.
