Alana Thompson (Honey Boo Boo) and the rest of her family were involved in a Milledgeville, Ga. car accident that caused no serious injuries but did send the family to the hospital with complaints of shortness of breath and back pain.
The police report states the accident occurred when David Thompson (Sugar Bear) was making a left-hand turn at a light and a truck driven by Seth Cagle, 19, hit the family. According to Cagle, the light was green for both of them and Sugar Bear turned in front of him and on-coming traffic.
Sugar Bear said the accident occurred because Cagle’s vehicle had no headlights on, a notion Cagle disputes, stating the lights are on an automatic setting. Authorities could not verify this account since the car was parked when they reached to the scene.
Mama June sent out a statement, saying the accident they were in was very scary, as it was the first time they’d ever been in one. She said the family – Sugar Bear, Chubbs (Jessica Shannon), Pumpkin (Lauryn Shannon), Honey Boo Boo and herself – were sore from the accident. However, she said, the family is focused on celebrating Pumpkin’s birthday, who turned 14 Tuesday. Mama June said regardless of how they feel they’re going out to celebrate. She thanked fans for their well wishes and support.
Cagle said an ambulance was nearby when the accident occurred. He said one girl was looked over and transported – although he’s not sure which one. Cagle said paramedics left before police arrived and the family and himself stuck around until the police took their report and told them they could go.
According to the report, both vehicles suffered moderate amounts of damage. Sugar Bear’s SUV had crush damage to its driver’s side headlight and front grill, scratches and dents along with a crumpled hood. Cagle’s truck included damage to the grill and has dents and cracks to its front bumper. A piece of the front bumper broke off the truck.
