“Pipeline to a Cure” is a first-year event showcasing the promising connection between saltwater activities and Cystic Fibrosis.


And it has been rallying the surfing and CF support communities to help fight the disease ... by raising $45,000!


The big bash took place Sept. 20 at the Jupiter Beach Resort on the ocean in Jupiter, and drew a crowd of more than 100 people to enjoy the evening that also included hula-hoop contests.


Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States. Since 1955, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been the driving force behind the pursuit of a cure.


The“PipelinetoaCure”cocktailgathering was conducted – with guests enjoyed an open bar with a sample of Tito’s Vodka, wonderful hors d’oeuvres and a small-plate buffet provided by Jupiter Beach Resort, silent and live auctions, live music from theStringTheoryBand,dancing,adisplay of local surfing history provided by Palm Beach County Surfing History Project and a guest appearance by famous pro-surfer Jensen Callaway.


Travis Suit was this year’s committee chair and CFF Ambassador, who auctioned the paddleboard he used in “Crossing for a Cure,” a paddleboard round-trip to Bimini this summer that he and his group made to raise awareness.


James Wieland, Channel 5 meteorologist, local celebrity was master of ceremonies.


Honorary Chairs include Jensen Calloway, Carey Chen, Tom Curren, William Kimball, Peter Mendia and Piper’s Angels (“Crossing for a Cure” Stand-Up Paddlers including: Suit, Joseph Morel, Kyle Igneri and Shane Pompa).


Presenting Sponsor was Whitney and Suneet Kukreja. Additional Sponsors: FPL, Ron Jon Surf Shop, Maui Jim Sunglasses, American Airlines and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.


Clever dress attire for the affair was tux on the top and board shorts/flip flops on the bottom.


Blue Water School of Surfing hosted “Pipeline to a Cure Surf Camp” Sept. 14, for Cystic Fibrosis families and friends on Juno Beach across from Ocean Cay Park.

QUANTUM HOUSE CELEBRATES ALL-STAR VOLUNTEERS


The crowd roared for the contestants as they worked to devour pumpkin pie during the pie-eating contest at the annual “Quantum House Volunteer Appreciation Day” Sept. 21.


In addition to the stomach-busting contest, the volunteers played corn hole and enjoyed delicious subs provided by Jersey Mike’s, participated in a putting competition hosted by Quail Ridge’s Parker Lewis, and enjoyed grilled burgers and hotdogs prepared by the gentlemen of the Jupiter Light Lodge.


The families and staff of Quantum House had the opportunity to thank the volunteers for their time and services, which involve preparing meals, house chores, and enrichment for the kids. An awards ceremony was held to recognize groups and individuals who have gone above and beyond for the House.
