Marvel made big waves Thursday when it announced its partnership with Netflix, which will include four new series, each featuring one of the company's beloved heroes, culminating in a crossover miniseries.
And while Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist have hardcore fans within the comics community, they are certainly less well-known than their Avengers counterparts. So if you're excited to see what Marvel will unleash on Netflix starting in 2015 but aren't entirely sure why, here's where you should start with each individual hero.
Daredevil
Where to Start: Mark Waid's run, beginning with "Daredevil, Vol.3 #1"
What You'll Get: While Daredevil rose in popularity thanks to a darker tone applied to him by writer Frank Miller, Waid took him back into a lighter direction, and the series quickly gained a reputation as being one of the best current Marvel series. Though the run will end early next year, this remains a great jumping-off point for newly interested fans.

Jessica Jones
Where to Start: At the beginning. "Alias" only ran for a totally straightforward 28 issues, so there's no confusing what the good stuff is.
What You'll Get: For one thing, "Alias" has always been famous for being Marvel's most adult series. The first issue opens with the F-word — the company's first use of it ever — and includes material adult enough to justify the series' R rating. But aside from that, "Alias" is a smart, modern take on the superhero genre that still manages to score cameos from some of Marvel's most famous heroes.

Luke Cage
Where to Start: In a lot of ways, Luke Cage is at his best during "Alias," but for more fun, check out the second volume of "The New Avengers."
What You'll Get: Captain America handed the reins of this Avengers splinter group to Cage, who was then joined by Wolverine, Spider-Man, the Thing, Iron First, Jessica Jones, Mockingbird, Ms. Marvel and Victoria Hand.

Iron Fist
Where to Start: "The Immortal Iron Fist #1" by Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction
What You'll Get: This beloved run won an Eisner Award in 2008 for Best New Series and was part of the reason Brubaker won Best Writer the same year. It is widely considered to be the best series featuring the character and greatly expands on the mythology of the martial-arts master.
