Sharyl Kittel of Cincinnati, who got married in 1987, said she opened the box the dress has been in since she had it dry cleaned shortly after the ceremony and was shocked to discover the now-closed dry cleaning business had given her the wrong dress, WLWT-TV, Cincinnati, reported Thursday.
"This is someone else's memories, someone else's everything," she said.
Kittel said the dress she received is a 1960s-style gown with a long lace train and a "Miss Betsy" label.
"It's a beautiful dress but it's definitely not mine," Kittel said.
She said the box she thought contained the veil actually contained baby clothes, a blanket and booties.
"Looks like it was made by someone, looks crocheted," Kittel said.
Kittel said the name "Ruth" was stitched on the box.
