It’s because she was wearing it for the third time. The English actress also sported the same strapless tulle gown at a pre-BAFTA party back in 2008.</p><br /><p>Could this be a sign of the times? Is re-wearing the gown from your big day no longer a serious <em>faux pas</em>?</p><br /><p>That could be partially true, said Lisa Gooder, digital director at <a href="http://www.brides.com/" id="readabilityLink-3" name="readabilityLink-3" style="color: inherit; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">Brides magazine</a><a class="readability-DoNotFootnote" href="#readabilityFootnoteLink-3" style="color: inherit;"><small>^[3] </small> </a>. Gooder said it’s becoming increasingly common for brides to get not one but two gorgeous dresses for their special day.</p><br /><p>“I think there are a lot of brides wearing a second dress for an after party or dancing portion. Keira Knightley attends the SeriousFun Gala in London on Tuesday night.</p><br /></div><br /><p>In bridal circles this is called “the little white dress” (a nod to the classic little black dress), and it can serve as a fun, comfortable alternative to the more binding, traditional bridal gown. Gooder noted that Knightley’s dress isn’t classified as an actual bridal gown, which raises its wearability factor.</p><br /><p>“If you’re going to wear the type of dress that Keira wore that’s bridal but not specifically a bridal dress, then you can definitely re-wear it,” Gooder said.</p><br /><p>She also pointed out that the whole idea of a big, fancy wedding gown is a fairly modern concept.</p><br /><p>“Way back in olden days before the white wedding dress, you got married in your best dress and continued to wear it,” Gooder said.</p><br /><p>Gooder said Knightley’s choice to re-wear her dress almost seems a little old-fashioned. Hugh Adami (Update): Case of the vanishing wedding dress comes to a close - Ottawa Citizen

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div readability='83' id='1'><br /><p>Terri-Lyn Campbell has finally been compensated by an Orléans dry cleaner for her stolen wedding gown.</p><br /><p>Campbell’s wedding dress disappeared last year after it was dropped off for dry cleaning.</p><br /><p>Last week, her husband, Greg, was given a certified cheque for $4,657 by Ratis Sen, the owner of Hills Cleaners on Forest Valley Road.</p><br /><p>Sen, though, continues to maintain his dry cleaning company was never in possession of the gown and that the publicity around the incident has unfairly cast his business in a negative light. He says blame for the theft falls entirely on seamstress Parwin Payman, who rents space at his outlet and takes dry-cleaning orders on behalf of Hills Cleaners.</p><br /><p>Sen should have told that to a small claims court judge last July when the Campbells presented their case for compensation. The couple took Sen to small claims as they felt he was ultimately responsible for the loss. They say Payman was acting as his agent when she accepted the gown for cleaning, following their October 2012 wedding.</p><br /><p>Sen, who was served with papers to appear, was a no-show, cementing the case in favour of the couple. Sen was ordered to pay the Campbells $4,407 for the dress, including pre- and post-judgment interest, plus $250 to cover their court expenses. But Sen ignored Greg Campbell’s letter to make arrangements for payment.</p><br /><p>So Campbell enlisted the help of The Public Citizen. Sen would not return calls, though someone in his office told me to deal with Payman, alleging that she was at fault for the missing gown.</p><br /><p>Payman explained the gown was stolen from her car outside her home. She said she planned to complete some alterations on the gown at home over the 2012 Christmas break, before sending it in for dry cleaning. Terri-Lyn Campbell denies she asked for any alterations.</p><br /><p>Payman didn’t seem to understand why such a fuss was being made over a missing wedding dress. She slagged the gown as being very old and in bad condition, and said a similar garment could be purchased for $50 at the Salvation Army Thrift Shop. Payman offered the couple a few hundred dollars to cover their loss when she first revealed it was missing.</p><br /><p>After the story appeared in the Citizen Dec. 5, Greg Campbell says, the seamstress called their home on a number of occasions to try to settle the matter between themselves. But they refused to deal with her, says Campbell, as the court order was against Sen. When he finally agreed to sign a cheque to compensate the Campbells, Sen told The Public Citizen the money was coming from Payman. He also said he was having Payman vacate his premises at the end of this month.</p><br /><p>Campbell had to go to Sen’s office twice to get the money. During his first visit, Campbell says, Sen wanted him to get the Citizen to agree to remove the Dec. 5 story from its website. Campbell says he explained to Sen he could not do that as it was the Citizen’s website.</p><br /><p>Sen called The Public Citizen that same day, saying he was confused as Campbell left his office angrily, without accepting the cheque. He denied he told Campbell to have the story removed from the Citizen website. So I told Sen he should call the Campbells to offer payment again — without any conditions. Sen was also told that upon payment, the Citizen would be more than willing to report the settlement.</p><br /></div><br /><div readability='57.1537045559' id='2'><br /><p>As far as the gown goes, Greg Campbell says he and his wife often wonder what really happened to it. They have a few theories.</p><br /><p><strong>OTTAWA MAN BACKFROM SPINAL SURGERY</strong> </p><br /><p>Adam Gard is recuperating in Ottawa following major surgery in the United States to help correct a spinal problem brought on by a degenerative condition known as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS).</p><br /><p>Gard, 40, travelled to the Baltimore area at the beginning of December for spinal fusion surgery. He could not find an Ontario neurosurgeon who was comfortable enough to attempt the procedure.</p><br /><p>Married with two young boys, Gard went through three years of severe suffering before an Ottawa neurologist suspected he had EDS and suggested he seek the help of Dr. Fraser Henderson, a Baltimore-area neurosurgeon. He was examined last June by Henderson, who confirmed Gard had EDS.</p><br /><p>EDS is a rare condition involving the body’s collagen that holds joints together. Simple ailments appear first, but the condition can deteriorate to the point it did with Gard, whose neck muscles and ligaments were so weak that his head was beginning to sink into his brain stem.</p><br /><p>OHIP did not cover of the operation, forcing family and friends to organize a fundraising drive. Not long after The Public Citizen told Gard’s story, the full $70,000 needed for the surgery was raised.</p><br /><p>The operation was performed on Dec. 2, and it went so well that Gard was allowed to return to Ottawa a week later. He had expected to remain in the U.S. until mid-December. “I was walking and doing stairs (the day after the operation).”</p><br /><p>Gard is wearing a neck brace as he did before the operation. But he should be able to start taking it off for periods of time in January, and begin physiotherapy in February. By March, Gard, who co-owns an auto-detailing business and works on the side as a small housing developer, says he should begin returning to a normal routine. “It’s just time.”</p><br /><p>He says an annoying problem right now is getting enough sleep. He says his neck brace is mostly to blame as it forces him to lie on his back.</p><br /><p><em>Is something bothering you? <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><p>Most guys wouldn’t know what to do after their wife left them.</p><br /><p>But when Kevin Cotter’s wife of 12 years left him, he found 101 things to do and a way to make money off the failed marriage.</p><br /><p>When his wife decided to leave him in 2009, she moved her belongings out of their home in Tuscon, AZ, leaving only one thing behind: her wedding dress.</p><br /><p>When Kevin asked her what he should do with the nearly $1,000 dress, she said, “Whatever the @%^A# you want.”</p><br /><p>“After my brother, sister-in-law, and parents made some offbeat suggestions for what I should do with the dress at dinner one night, I decided to see exactly what it was capable of,” he writes in his blog titled, “<a href="http://myexwifesweddingdress.com" id="readabilityLink-1" name="readabilityLink-1" style="color: inherit; text-decoration: none;">My Ex-Wife’s Wedding Dress</a><a class="readability-DoNotFootnote" href="#readabilityFootnoteLink-1" style="color: inherit;"><small>^[1] </small> </a>.”</p><br /><p>Apparently the dress is capable of a lot. Kevin decided to inspire others by writing a book called “101 Uses for My Ex-Wife’s Wedding Dress,” based on the uses he’s already tried out and people’s suggestions they have left on his blog.</p><br /><p>Of course not everyone commends Kevin for his creativity. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><span class='story_dl'>CINCINNATI, Dec. 12 (UPI) --</span> An Ohio woman who took her wedding dress to be dry cleaned nearly 30 years ago said she recently discovered she was given the wrong gown in return.<br /><p>Sharyl Kittel of Cincinnati, who got married in 1987, said she opened the box the dress has been in since she had it dry cleaned shortly after the ceremony and was shocked to discover the now-closed dry cleaning business had given her the wrong dress, WLWT-TV, Cincinnati, reported Thursday.</p><br /><p>"This is someone else's memories, someone else's everything," she said.</p><br /><p>Kittel said the dress she received is a 1960s-style gown with a long lace train and a "Miss Betsy" label.</p><br /><p>"It's a beautiful dress but it's definitely not mine," Kittel said.</p><br /><p>She said the box she thought contained the veil actually contained baby clothes, a blanket and booties.</p><br /><p>"Looks like it was made by someone, looks crocheted," Kittel said.</p><br /><p>Kittel said the name "Ruth" was stitched on the box.</p><br /></div>

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><ul><br /><li id='contents' class='art_para entry-content'> </li><br /></ul><br /><div id='pagination1'><br /><blockquote><br /><p>When Kyria Smith got engaged, she knew what she wanted her future to look like.<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>“It’s obvious and apparent that my grandma and grandpa are still very much in love with each other,” she said of her grandparents, Marlene and Edward “Ned “ Colloton of Rockford. “I’ve seen the best in a marriage when I look at them and I knew that I wanted that.”<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>To her, that marital bliss was symbolized by one dress. It was the dress her grandma had worn in 1959 on her wedding day. And the dress her mother, Lisa Smith, had worn in 1986 on her wedding day. And the dress her sister, Katelyn Leach, had worn in 2011 on hers.<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>So when Kyria walked down the aisle and exchanged vows with Adam Branaugh on Sept. 28, she became the fourth woman in her family to wear the wedding dress.<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>“I never considered not wearing it,” said Kyria, 22, who lives in Pewaukee, Wis.<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>As an excited bride-to-be in 1959, Marlene bought the dress from Owens Department Store on West State Street in Rockford. Over the years, the dress has become a symbol of faithful marriage and family tradition, both strong attributes to this close-knit clan.<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>“I’m a traditionalist. I like following family traditions,” said Marlene’s daughter and Kyria’s mother, Lisa, of Elkhorn, Wis. “Mom and Papa are wonderful role models and have had a very strong marriage all my life, and I wanted that, too. Dan and I have been married 27 years, so this dress is like a good luck charm for our family.”<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>For several decades the dress remained nearly unaltered, though Kyria removed the sleeves for her wedding. Naturally, Lisa turned the modification into another family heirloom. The two sleeves were cut in half, embroidered with the four wedding dates and framed.<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>Kyria’s sister, Katelyn, said she had a brief moment of hesitation when she saw her friends trying on new wedding gowns, but when she thought of the connection the handed-down gown created, those thoughts evaporated.<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>“I was a little bit jealous of the friends going to the bridal shops and getting the new dresses, but then I realized how special it was that I had this moment to share with my family,” said Katelyn, 25, who also lives in Elkhorn, Wis. “They’re hanging their dresses up and never doing anything else with them, but I get to wear this special dress that connects us all and I get to wear it while standing next to the man who is going to make me happy the rest of my life. We all felt that same way and still do.”<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /></div><br /><div class='none' id='pagination2'><br /><blockquote><br /><p><span class='title-pager'>Page 2 of 2</span> - Marlene said she is proud to have this everlasting link with her daughter and granddaughters.<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>“I was real pleased to see the dress again. I was really shocked that the two young ones wanted to wear it,” Marlene said. “You only wear a wedding dress one day in your life — but I’ve had the chance to see it three more times.”<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>To Kyria, the dress symbolizes what’s truly important in her life.<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>“So many of the traditions get lost,” she said. “We have drive-thrus, text messages and Facebook that people focus on now, but life is about making lasting connections and not letting the small, important things get lost. It’s important to hand these family traditions down. Wearing this dress was definitely a privilege. I would love for my daughters to wear it when their time comes, but I would hope it would be their wish because they wanted to have the same kind of close relationship that I have with my grandma, mom and sister.”<br/> </p><br /></blockquote><br /></div><br /></div>

Keira Knightley doesn’t mind it. She recently wore her wedding dress to the <em>Serious Fun gala</em> in London. To make matters worse, this isn’t the first time this has happened.</p><br /><p>Knightley wore a similar style to the <em>Finch & Partners’ pre-BAFTA Bash</em> in 2008. While there is no law that says celebrities can’t wear repeat styles, it’s pretty much an unwritten rule.</p><br /><p>Knightley has always been very stylish and apparently confident, since not many people or celebrities would wear their wedding dress anywhere other than their wedding. In Knightley’s defense, the dress is very versatile and it’s easy to see why she would fall in love with the design.</p><br /><p><iframe allowfullscreen='' frameborder='0' src='//www.youtube.com/embed/MV00AASA4AU' height='315' width='616'>[embedded content]</iframe> </p><br /><p>To help make her look appear less like a repeat style, Knightley decided to wear some different accessories. She wore a sheer, long-sleeve shirt that included an embellished neckline under the sleeveless pink Chanel Houte Couture dress. The neckline gave the illusion that she was also wearing a necklace.</p><br /><p>Although Knightley has gotten some harsh criticism over her decision to wear her wedding dress to an event, she doesn’t seem to mind. Sometimes you just love an outfit so much that you want to wear it whenever you can.
