The Writers Guild of America has announced nominees for its 2014 awards. Spike Jonze's sci-fi romance "" is among the contenders for Best Original Screenplay, and Martin Scorsese's black comedic take on Jordan Belfort's book "" is vying for Best Adapted Screenplay.


joins the competition to win the Best Original Screenplay, thanks to his work on latest dramedy "" which he also directed. Other nominees in the category are the writers of "", "", and "".


Meanwhile, and share a nomination in Best Adapted Screenplay with director Richard Linklater for their screenwriting in romance comedy "" where Delpy and Hawke were the lead actors. Other contenders in the category are the writers of "", "", and "".


Some high-profiled movies are noticeably missing from the list since only union members or scripts written under the guidance of a guild agreement are eligible for nomination. "" and "" are out of the contention due to the WGA strict qualifying rules.


The winners will be announced at simultaneous ceremonies held in New York and Los Angeles on February 1. The WGA also honors winners in television, radio and other categories which nominees were already announced in late 2013. Candidates in videogame category will be unveiled January 9.
