On Friday, Sept. 20, three trailers full of wedding gowns rolled into Houston.

Some of the gowns were new, some were used, but all had significant discounts, and the women browsing loved the idea that they could give back while buying their dream wedding dress.

The gowns are part of Brides Against Breast Cancer’s nationwide Tour of Gowns event, which sells donated and new gowns at reduced costs.

Started earlier this year, BABC raises funds for the Center for Building Hope in Sarasota, Fla., which provides free information and support services to people impacted by cancer.

Katie Posivak, the Houston team leader and show manager, said Houston is a popular stop for the Tour of Gowns, and BABC has visited Houston three times this year alone.

The charity event is like a “bridal boutique and expo in one,” Posivak said, and it allows vendors and brides the opportunity to interact and find their dream dress.

“A lot of the people come to the show and in some way have been affected by cancer,” Posivak said. “Some come to be able to donate to a good cause.”

Gowns that don’t sell at the Houston event are taken to other cities and eventually wind up in the organization’s wedding gown boutique in Sarasota.

“I’m sure it will sell in one of these cities,” Posivak said.
